They say the HTC FM Radio is for GSM.  Could be.
But, the FM Radio is on a BroadComm WIDCOMM Bluetooth BCM4325 Chipset.

BUT, yes another but, there is a program in the Windows folder called BTFM.exe and it's a radio program.  Just thought I would through that out.  I'm trying to see if it works.

I sent Sprint the following email:

Here's a copy of your email for your records:

Customer Name: JEFF
Sprint PCS Phone Number:
Account Number:
Form: Ask A Question-Manage
Topic: Equipment
SUB Topic: General Inquiry
=============================================================
Original Question: Touch Pro 2 FM Radio
Question: The Touch Pro 2 is a great phone, yet the FM Radio isn't functional. This phone has a BroadComm WIDCOMM Bluetooth BCM4325 chipset which has the FM Radio and the program is already on the phone BTFM.EXE. Please provide the drivers to make this phone complete with FM Radio. To say that it is only available on GSM phones is incorrect because both use the same chipset. Thank you for listening. Please advise.

Jeff, where did you find out that the Sprint TP2 has that BroadComm chipset in it? I've read that it may have a BC, Moto or TI chipset. I don't know if anyone has taken their TP2 apart.

If you ask HTC they put the blame on the carrier, so they are no help. Once someone comes up with an unlocker for the TP2 then we will know for sure.

I really don't care either way. I prefer internet radio or my mp3s.

The registry for the phone reflects such.  The drivers are Broadcom's as well as the BTFM.exe radio program.  Could I be wrong, sure, but its highly unlikely I am.  Even XDA Developers state the same.  One thing that is interesting is there are SDK dll's in the Windows folder for the FM Radio.  SDK meaning software development kit.  So, I'm keeping an eye on XDA Developers to see if they create working drivers.   Technically, if the trace for the antenna from the 3.5 headset jack to the chipset doesn't exist then no matter what drivers are developed it won't work.  Now would HTC do that to accomodate Sprint....I doubt it.  Moto and TI chipsets would normally have their own registry and drivers installed.  I emailed Sprint again.  See below their reply to above and my response.

Besides, is the lack of FM Radio the end of the world....NO.  It would be nice to have since I think it exists.

The "feature" is part of the BroadComm WIDCOMM Bluetooth BCM4325 chipset which is in the phone. I'm not inept with technology or electronics, so..tell me technically why isn't this feature turned on. I will afford time for a reasonable answer beyond what was emailed. I know not everyone that responds to these emails are engineers, but do expect research and conclusion. I say this because this is the same spin I got when features that were available on the Sprint Mogul weren't "turned on." The reality is I'm still within my 30 day return window for this product, and since that return constitutes the completion of service for which it was purchased.

Please advise and thank you for the time with this issue.

Jeff

Ok, I called Sprint tech support (the technical side).  Sorry, I've been away.  I taught the tech about the chipset.  He took information and my request for drivers.  I mentioned that either Sprint had the antenna trace not connected to the chipset (highly unlikely) or its a driver issue.  I gave him the chipset number. and suggested they write a FM Radio program that uses RDS to purchase songs from the Sprint Store.  Just an entice to make the money.

Bottom line.  I got no where.  Who knows, maybe it will come out with WM6.5 as an HTC/Sprint Addon.

Jeff
