With the bootleg released ROM over the weekend I was seriouly exited that January 28th release date may actually happen (per Sprint Customer Service).

So after checking the HTC Site and found no updtae I decided to send them an email.

Info@htc.com

I asked...

"When is the new ROM going to be released?"

Replied...

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Sprint HTC Mogul

I can understand knowing about the software update is important. I would like to inform you that, at this moment we do not have any information about the exact date on this software release. When this Software becomes available, you can obtain it from the following link

www.america.htc.com/support.mogul  bla bla bla bla..

Well there you have it, looks like I am going to jump into to the bootleged one,

THANKS HTC...and THANK YOU TOO SPRINT.

I would'nt be so ticked if the people at sprint were'nt spreading a January 28 Release.

This isn't news.  Even if the guy knew what date, he'd give the same respone.  I doubt they're allowed to say when it's supposed to be released.

What's the latest anyway?

I read here a few days ago it would be ready 1/28 and available for download load a few days after that.

But then on the thread where the unoffical new ROM is being discussed, I saw this:

sol740 said :

... Well after reading that the actual release may not happen till Spring-Summer...

What's this about Spring-Summer now? Is that true?

SOL740, if you're out there, where'd that come from?

(I didn't want to clutter up the 3.16 ROM discussion with this question!)

I'm looking forward to my official 3.16 update in Fall of 2008, that should be just about right, if history repeats itself.

Just be happy that were unofficial beta testers for the ROM.  They will read the threads and see what were happy or sad about.  LOL.

If you dont know how to manage your contact list then leave the ROM update alone.  Otherwise, have fun with it.  Much was brought out on our threads here that were helpful.

I'm having fun with it.  Sprint navigation works great!

Ok so i have noticed that the mogul seems a LOT slower when runninging the GPS and that the baterry lfie kinda sucks with this ROM.  Has anyone else see any other issues with this ROM?

Why would you install a ROM that doesn't come from the company itself.  If they haven't released it, well...there would seem to be a good reason why.  Not to mention, you sure have to go through a lot of back door steps to install this.  Not worth the hassel, iyam.

Battery life on my phone is fine, UNLESS I use the GPS without the cigarette power cord.  That would make sense anyways since were turning on another chipset for use (radio) to operate the GPS.

Some have complained about the lack ATI display drivers.  The support is on the chip.  If that gets implemented, then your battery will also be used more.

So, if you want features, then buy a bigger capacity battery.  Its a trade off that I'm willing to accept.

Glad this isnt a conformist society.  Don't tell the folks at XDA Developers this.  They create ROMs for the phone and most times improve upon what we have.

If it wasn't for great people like them then we would be stuck with what we got until the next phone.

Most likely this BETA ROM came from an insider.  For which I thank them.  Unofficially, I can have fun like they can.  Besides, I can always go back to the older ROM.  I'm not intimidated by the update.  If people have complications on some of the basic features of the phone then I say don't update it.  Otherwise, have fun.

Risk vs. reward.  Some people like to tweak and hack because to them the risk of a bricked phone is worth the reward of cool new features.  Some folks are averse to that risk and would rather not bother.  I fall into the former, you fall into the latter.  Different strokes.
