Ok so I was able to install iGuidance 4.0

Started it up and it found the GPS on com 4 @ 4800 baud.

however it only found 4/4 satellites... that is on a nice and clear sunny sky.... that is bad...

what are you getting for satellites?

my bt gps is home.. so will set that up later and most likely use it..

when I used it with my ipaq it saw 11/12 satellites @ 115k baud!!!!!! and was 100% reliable!!!!! plus small too....

It depends on where you are, the time of day, and the GPS receiver you are using. Four satellites are fine. You need three to get a position lock.

Get paid to use your GPS by mapping Cell Towers and WiFi access points using Navizon - Click here to sign up with Navizon for free.

I typically see 8-12 satellites, but I'm also in a fairly large city. I got 5-7 when I was on the train in the middle of BFE

Now rocking a Mogul in the Berkeley Area!

well I guess I will have to do some more testing...

I am getting 3/4 satellites with the internal gps and getting

6-11/12 on the BT GPS... either way I got them both working..

one other biggie I noticed is while driving and 3/4... iGuidance doesnt update that well... and doesnt show my speed...

when I had my ipaq iGuidance was dead on... 100%... when I was turning.. .I was at the turn position on the gps....

havent tried the bluetooth in the car yet.. tomorrow on the way to work will be...

I would recommend a hard reset of your device and let the sprint customization crap load, before testing the GPS again.

We have 2 Moguls in our house and mine worked fine the first time with 8-11 satellites, but the second Mogul was only getting 4 satellites max and it only started working recognizing all 11 satellites after a hard reset. I figured the sprint customization crap maybe had something to do with it. Maybe not, but worth a try.

and how does one do a hard reset?

also im gonna guess a hard reset means you will loose all data? if so what is the best way to back it up to restore all the data?

well I used the internal on my way to work (1/2 way) and the best I got was 5/6 sats... and the other thing I noticed is with work set as the destination, the map didnt update that often.... in addition down in the lower right where the mph is, it would read 0 alot... then a speed, then 0...... so it seems that it is just picking up then dropping...

now you have to also remember that I am not using a data plan so that may also contribute... as I am not dialing out to sprint or using towers or anything for triangulation (think that is what it is called and I think that is how it works ... but im not 100% sure..

now with my bt gps... I had 7-11 of 12 satellites and none of the other issues... the text to speach didnt breakup at all... or sound choppy.... speed was always there and map moved perfect....when I was at the intersection it showed it right...

gonna figure out how to hard reset the mogul (google search should tell me) and try the internal on my way home....

p.s. gas was $3.15 for regular this morning!!!!!!!

To hard start you hold down the two soft keys on the front of your mogul and use your stylus to push in the reset button on the bottom of the phone. You will be asked to confirm that you want to reset and then it only took a few minutes to complete. Just did it yesterday myself.

Hey I was just reading up on that iGuidance 4.0 program that you were discussing in this thread and I came across this information on the iGuidance website.

**** Note: iGuidance is incompatible w/ the new ROM released by HTC which enabled the internal gps chip. iGuidance will continue to work with an external gps receiver while using PPC6800/Mogul, but in order for iGuidance to work w/ the internal gps, user will need to download/purchase Franson's GPSGate (express or standard version) via http://franson.com/gpsgate/

Do you have the newest ROM installed on your Mogul?
